Hello! Welcome and Welcome Back! Now, I have been thinking about this topic for a while. I watch how others conduct themselves in this, “technological era.” These devices has caused some of us to overlook simple common courtesy! Some don’t speak anymore and others don’t even acknowledge the presence of others because they be to wrapped up in their conversation on the phone.
I never thought that the day would come where I’d careless if I have my phone or miss out on the latest drama on fb. Believe me, I was there! I’d get on my phone and scroll down until my eyes or thumbs would get tired. Once I realized I was spending more time on my phone than I was with the ones around me, I decided to make a change.
In the beginning of facebook, I observed the complaints others had about their experiences with social media. Since I did not want those experiences in my life, I decided to limit all of my social media contacts to business only. I do not share my personal life, I do not tell my business or complain about it on social media and I don’t do hook ups from social media. With that being said, now it is so easy for me to stay away from social media to the point where some people will call me to make sure I am okay because they have not seen me post in a few days. (days?! days.)
I’ve decided to make a post to share some ideas to help others detox from social media. It’s not that anything else is less interesting, it’s that technology is more convenient! It’s a big difference.
To help give a jolt of inspiration, I am going to list ideas you can use whenever you need something in the place of your social media fix. The whole experience is based on your attitude. If you want to do this, you will succeed!
- Read/Listen to Podcast
- Have a Game Night
- Talk to someone that you have not spoken to in a while
- Observe nature
- Visit family
- Take up a class or workshop
- Try new hobbies
- Start a business
- Write someone an old fashioned letter and mail it (you and the receiver can be pen pals)
- Start a book
- Start a podcast
- Binge watch shows you never seen/always wanted to see
- Go to social gatherings
- Be more active in your community
- Get some well needed rest
- Research things of interest
- Learn a new skill
- Join a group based on your interest, meet in person often and share ideas
I could go on and on but I am pretty sure everyone could think of something else to do besides being on their phones. If you have any ideas please comment below I’d love to see!
Technology is for convenience. It is not real life. Real life is everything outside of social media. The sooner we can disconnect ourselves from our devices, the sooner we can reconnect with ourselves, each other all the way to the whole universe.
I hope this helps someone. Thank you for reading!!! Until next time…Keep Shining and Take Care!!
